How h1 headers help your search engine rankings Search engines look at the headers of a page and use that information to understand what the page topic is. In turn it then uses this information to partly determine your search engine rankings for certain key phrases. So, it is very important your have h1 headers in your pages. If for instance you have a website page about franchising and you want to rank well for the phrase "franchise opportunities" it would be a good idea to have that phrase in your h1.
